You are the only exception

Happy Summer 2010 fellow friends!

I'm a bit late on that greeting, but better late than never! I can't believe highschool is FIN, and all that's left is my commencement in SEPTEMBER. It may be far, far away still, but I can totally feel it looming. And what else is looming? COURSE REGISTRATION FOR SFU! The thing is, I'm going to be livin' it up in VEGAS when my date and time to register comes, so I'm gonna have to take a break from the gambling, drinking and high flying adventures (LOL yeah right) for a few minutes to register for all the courses I want come 8:30am on July 13th :)! Wait, what is this you might ask? Gelina, in Vegas? OH. Well do let me explain :)

TOMORROW (yes tomorrow) Gelina will be boarding a flight to Vegas along with hear dear Mother, Grandmother, aunt and twin sis. Quite the unlikely WOLF PACK but hey, them seniors, they can be straight up gamblers yo, hahahaha. And if you didn't get that wolf pack joke.... watch The Hangover. HAHAHA. "Hey. How 'bout that drive in? I guess that's why they call it Sin City..." HAAAA gotta love The Hangover.

Anyway, I'm going to rewind ALLLLL the way back to June, as far as my first memorable (near) summer event occurred, which was my birthday! YAYUUUH! (That was a reference to a hilarious Youtube vid, of a nerd saying in a high voice, 'HEY YOUTUBE! TODAY'S MY BIRFDAY! YAAAAAY-UUUUH!' Hahaha oh man.) My birthday was by far my most favourite night after Grad Night. It was seriously all the people I love most, in one room, getting along, celebrating moi 8). HAHA jks about the ME part, but honestly, I could've cried 50 times that night out of pure happiness, that's how amazing my birthday was, so big ups to everyone that took part in it, and helped put it together (especially my Mom). It was one of the best nights of my life.

After that, school pretty much dwindled down towards the 'last' day of school. I put quotations around LAST because some weirdos decided to set off an orange smoke bomb in one of our school stairwells, the stairwell that was nearest MY History class at the time, which cut our essay exam early. Lucky for me I finished writing mine 10 minutes early and was just playing around with my camera. While the firemen aired out the stairwell and cleared the orange smoke out of the school completely (took nearly an HOUR as we waited in the boiling sun), the school finally had to announce that we had to come back to school on Monday to finish the last period we never got to, since the smoke bomb dramzzz ended our school day early. This day, as much of a fail as it was, was another happy day pour moi :) Since we had plans later in the day, and school ended early, the walk/drive to Kimbo's place was pure sing-a-long and good times: Lean On Me, That's What Friends Are For, Stand By Me - completely out of tune, Gr 11 boys applauding us as we walked. Amanjyot and Kim arguing over shotgun when Doe pulled up to drive us the rest of the way, California Girls with windows low = defintion of GOOD TIMES. My God, I'm going to miss highschool so much.

Anyway, moving on to the most anticipated school night of the year, AWARDS CEREMONY! Well, for me this is the most anticipated school night of the year... it makes me nervous, hahaha. And since the day would end with Awards Night, it was only natural we had our annual KBAGG day! See, KBAGG day happens on one of the last days of school, so that we end it off together, and then celebrate again later in the night if one of us wins an award. It was typical restaurant lunch & mall stuff, dressed to impress foe shizzle. We met up later at the school with our parents there to watch us win awards, and boy, did I win some unexpected awards!!! Shall I list all four of them? HAHA, no, I'm just kidding. But fyi - four awards is kind of a big deal. It's not exactly a clean sweep but close enough, hahaha, so I hope my parents are proud of me. Can you believe I got the LITERATURE 12 AWARD? When I got a 94% in that class only? Thanks to Hamlet Journals baby!!! Wooot wooot! Though I hated you Hamlet, thanks for practically handing me this award at the end of the year, though I did not expect it. Oh yeah, my plaque also came with a 20 dollar Gift Card to Chapters, which I've already spent on one book (Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them - JKR FTW!!!). No worries though, I still have 11.50 left :) For some reason I also got the After School Peer Tutoring Award for my work tutoring kids in the library 3/5 school days (which TOTALLY ruins whatever idea you have of a life, it's so time consuming - tutor for 2 hours, go home and do the homework you could've finished while tutoring but couldn't, and then sleep late at night 'cause the homework you had took you forever - same schedule for the ENTIRE year, ugh). And then I got the celebrated, beloved, highy sought after 4.0 GPA AWARD!!! This means straight As of course, but of the 200 something students in my grade, usually one or two people get it - last year it was just two people. This year it was five. I am so proud of myself. 90% and above in ALL MY MOTHER EFFING CLASSES, and I mean ALL of them. In fact, here is my final report card:

  • Literature 12 - 94%
  • Law 12 - 92%
  • English 12H - 94% before Prov, dropped to 91% after Prov
  • Film Studies - 99% (which is STUPID because I had 100% until the very last minute, NO CLUE why it dropped.)
  • Peer Tutoring - 100% (hence I got the Peer Tutoring Award)
  • History 12 - 91%

& You have no idea how hard I worked for all of that. NO. FREAKING. CLUE. Even if I had an 89, I'd probably want to shoot myself. But that's what one does for the 4.0 GPA AWARD! No life, just school = medal around your neck :) Ah, I loveeee that freakin' medal.

And now since summer has officially begun, it's been hotness non-stop, mall almost everyday for the AC, and plain chillage, especially before I leave for Vegas. I've had a few meetings at SFU just about course planning, course selection, etc etc. and now I'm slightly to go to university. Wanna see the classes I'm thinking of taking in my first semester?
  • 1st Exploration course, Organizing Society
  • 2nd Exploration course, Experiencing Society
  • Hist 106, The Making of Modern Europe
  • WL 102, Literature Across Cultures

As a student in the Explorations program, I'm required to take at least 2 Expl courses (and I'm looking super forward to both of those, you should see the course outline!). I'm also looking SUPER forward to my World Lit course, it's about literature in different cultures during turbulent times! I'm partially excited about The Making of Modern Europe as well. I hope I end up liking all of those courses, or even that I get into ALL of them successfully without having to get on a Wait List. If so, that's crap. 'Cause as a scholarship student, I should have way higher priority than most of the other kids who take it, especially as I won two from SFU. If I get Wait Listed, Gelina shall be angry.

Anyway, I have toooootally ranted for way too long. I'm seriously scrolling up, and I'm like, Dang, I feel bad for whoever actually reads this through, I write too much, LOL. But yeah. VEGAS BABY! I shall miss everyone foe shizzle, though I'll not be long gone :) I seriously can't forget to register while I'm over there, so somebody out there remind me, LOL. MERCI.

Who knows when I'll next update this. Probs when I'm in Vegas and I have nothing to do after I've finished acting like a tourist. Peace out friends!!!

Yours truly,
Gelina S.
